We've almost finished bumping out after the epic season of our collaboration with The Good Room - Maybe It's Only Us (if you missed it check out the review below).
As the year winds down it's a good time to reflect on 2025; we've premiered new circus shows, toured regional and remote Queensland, launched new programs and partnerships, and delivered training programs at home and around the state.
Next year will be another big year, we're changing up our performance programs, adding new classes and changing up our circus school, making new shows, and touring Queensland and Australia.
We also have a full calendar of holiday workshop programs including the 5 Day Performance Camp and Chinese Pole classes in January.
Congratulations to Flipside students and alumni who are taking on new challenges next year - Flipside artists are studying at the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) and Flying Fruit Fly Circus in 2026.
Thank you to the Flipside staff, trainers, board, students, and community who have made 2025 such a great year (sometimes under difficult circumstances).

A bold season, powered by young artists
Maybe It’s Only Us closed after a sellout and standout season at the Brisbane Circus Centre — a collaboration between Flipside Circus and The Good Room that pushed our venue (and our audience) into new territory.
Audiences loved the promenade staging that turned the entire building into a performance landscape. Moving through multiple spaces as the story unfolded around them, with many calling out the opening moments, the scale of the staging, and the ensemble's energy and skill as highlights of the night.
This season was strong proof of what’s possible when young people are trusted with ambitious material: daring physicality, raw honesty, and a show that reimagined what circus can look like when the environment becomes part of the apparatus.
We're looking forward to the future of our Performance Program and an excellent 2026 season of works.
Next term we’re introducing a refreshed Training Program to make it easier for students to progress, specialise, and find their right fit.
Our Head of Circus & Training, Jian Nie, is stepping into a larger leadership role within the Circus School. With international performance experience and years of coaching at leading institutions (including NICA), Jian is guiding several updates across 2026:
Clearer progression pathway: classes are being restructured so students can move through levels more smoothly as skills develop (some class names and times will change).
New specialist opportunities: niche and advanced skills taught by world-class trainers, giving students more depth and choice. Chinese Pole (taught by Jian) will be the first specialty class added to the timetable and is now open to enrol.
A place for every student: diverse class streams will help ensure students who come for joy, fitness, community, or skill building have a clear route to excel.
This restructure aims to lift consistency and training quality, helping students grow from their first cartwheel to their boldest ambitions.

Four Flipside artists take the next leap — and we couldn’t be prouder
Flipside students Lucia Palazzo-Orr and Lillian Ball have been accepted to continue their circus journey at the Flying Fruit Fly Circus in Albury (VIC). Fruities deliver the only full-time circus program for young people aged 8-18 in Australia.
Lucia and Lillian started training at Flipside Circus at ages 5 and 8 respectively. Their dedication to training and performance amazed audiences this year's Step Ups show, READY.
Meanwhile, Flipside trainers, former students, and emerging artists Indra Garvey and Aurora Bennett-Godde have been accepted into full-time study at NICA (National Institute of Circus Arts).
We've loved watching these four young artists grow from their first cartwheels to nailing their auditions at these world-class circus training orgs. They will be greatly missed but we couldn't be prouder of their achievements and wish them all the best on their circus journeys!
